Newton Hawker Center| Singapore | Chapter 1
Hawker centers is one of the unique and important part of Singapore culture where in you will find people with different culture , food taste, community dining together and having variety of options to choose which takes me to my next hop to one of the oldest and famous hawker center, Newton Hawker Center in Singapore which was setup in 1971.
To me, seafood has been showstopper here varying from clams, crabs, prawns , oysters to name a few :)
The seating arrangement is spacious and airy and i like the layout of this hawker center. i had been here both during lunch and late night dinner… i must say , to experience the ambience and the night feel of an hawker center ,you should visit during the weekend nights. This is one of centers which is open until 2am :)
Nearest station is Newton MRT (500m walk) |Downtown Lane
As expected on a typical Saturday night with long queues at the stall and for seats, we too ended up waiting 30 mins for our delicious and mouth watering crab chilly. It was sweet and spicy and also had silky egg in it. The price is always as per size. A single crab chilly was decent portion for two and we loved the taste.
Guan Kee Grill Seafood #01–53
Later thought to try something that I have never tried before but my husband has , which was Satay :) (Indonesia origin) which landed us to R&B Express, #01–76 which is Michelin star recommended. For those who dont know, satays are usually served in chicken, pork, beef, lamb, They charge 70c per piece and min 10 chicken satay is what they would serve. Perfectly combined with a sweet peanut sauce is not at all a wrong option. So, we tried chicken satay. The meat was super soft and well marinated with herbs and spiced and I believe it was glazed with little oil.
We also tried their BBQ Chicken wings (which both of us love :)). It typically had charcoal aroma which made the difference. This is also one dish recommended !
Sugarcane juice was our usual drink throughout our meal and you may have it from any outlet at Newton Hawker Center.
Overall experience @ Newton Hawker Center:
Food : 5/5
Variety : 5/5
Hygiene : 5/5
Money : 5/5 (Pocket friendly)
Ambience : 5/5
